Leviathan on the move

On Saturday 12th September 2026, a small team of Cromford Steam Rally members carefully transported Leviathan from its resting place of over 10 years. Until now, Leviathan has lived at Cromford where it was parked in preparation for repairs. We believe this to have been a minimum of 10 years ago, although exact dates are unknown.
With a little bit of a fight to release the drive pins, Leviathan was made ready for the move. Members of the team removed the covers and attached a straight bar to the rear. With the gentle assistance of modern machinery, driven expertly by our Vice Chairman, Leviathan was freed from slumber. With our Chairman on the foot plate, working hard by all accounts, the 15 tonne giant was guided onto a low loader, kindly provided by H Strange and Son (Derbyshire).
For now, Leviathan has only taken a short trip down the road where it awaits the journey to FP Engineering later this month. But once unloaded safely, the team set about freeing some of the mechanical parts and checking the engine over. Whilst there are several major issues that require attention, Leviathan has most of her original parts and now awaits the next stage of the journey to complete restoration.
